Badulla is an old city, nestled in the lower central ranges of Sri Lanka, about 230 kilometers away from Colombo. The city consists of the ancient and much well-known Muthiyangana Temple. This multinational city is gradually getting developed with good hospitals and infrastructure. The British used it as a regional centre in the 20th century, making it the capital of Uva Wellassa, which is now called Uva Province. Some British colonial structures like the railway station adorn Badulla even today. It is one of the leading cities that produce tea in Sri Lanka. Some of its major tourist attractions are Dunhinda waterfall, Dhowa temple, Rawana Buddhist Temple, Bogada Wooden Bridge etc.
It is located on the southeast of Kandy, almost encircled by the Badulu Oya River, about 680 metres (2200 ft) above sea level and is surrounded by tea plantations. The city is overshadowed by the Namunukula range of mountains (highest peak 2,016 metres above sea level).
