About 78 km away from Colombo, Kegalle is a town located in Sabaragamuwa Province in Sri Lanka. The town occupies an area of 1692.8 sq km and comes under the administration of Urban Council. Agricultural products, precious stones and graphite are produced in the neighboring areas. Its economy thrives mainly on rubber plantation. The most well-known graphite mine of Sri Lanka is located in Bogala, a part of Kegalle district.
The major tourist attractions of this area are Pinnawala elephant orphanage and Aluth Nuwara Dedimunda Devalaya. Plantations of coffee, rubber, clove, pepper, nutmeg etc. beautify Kegalle. Its surrounding is also quite scenic, making it an ideal get away for tourists.
Kegalle (Sinhalese: ??????; Tamil: ??????) is a large town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. It is located on the Colombo–Kandy road, approximately 78 km (48 mi) from Colombo and 40 km (25 mi) from Kandy. It is the main town in the Kegalle District, which is one of two districts which comprise Sabaragamuwa Province.
