Mannar District

Located 226 km away to the north-west of Colombo, Munnar is popular for the historical ruins like Portuguese fort built in 1658. It was later reconstructed by the Dutch. Pearl fishing was its chief source of livelihood in the past.
Its flora and fauna also draw attention. It is home to over 3600 species of plants and animals. The flora includes a rare African tree called Baobab.
