Moneragala falls in the Uva Province in Sri Lanka. Of the total number of 25 districts in Sri Lanka, Moneragala is the largest. It sprawls across an area of 7,133 sq km. Its major towns include Moneragala, Wellawaya , Siyambaladuwa, Tanamalwila, Madulla, Badalkumbura, Okkampitiya, Buttala, Kataragama, Bibile etc.
The district thrives on cocoa, rubber, rice and sugar cane plantations. The climate is mostly dry. But farming is the main occupation of the inhabitants who reside on the flat lands. It is only during monsoon that farming is possible. The wildlife of the district comprises fox, elk, deer, elephants etc. In its bird population peacock forms the greatest attraction.
