Nuwara Eliya is a popular hill station in Sri Lanka. Located at about 2000 meter above sea level, it is almost 180 km from Colombo. The city with an alternate name of ‘City of Light’ is the tea-capital of Sri Lanka. Beautiful tea plantations eyed by the highest peak is Sri Lanka, Pidurutalagala, is one of the favorite spots of the tourists.
This was one of the favorite towns of the British who had tried to develop it into an English town. This ‘Little England’ thus features buildings and bungalows made in Georgian and Tudor architecture. Its pleasant climate and mesmerizing views make it quite popular among tourists.
Nuwara Eliya (Sinhalese: ???? ???? [nuw?r? ?lij?]; Tamil: ?????????) is a city in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. Its name means "city on the plain (table land)" or "city of light". The city is the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya District, with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate.
