Situated about 216 km from Colombo, Polonnurawa is famous for the ancient architecture of Sri Lanka. The structures date back to as early as 12th century AD. The city’s well-preserved dagobas, massive buildings, moonstones, statues and parks form its major attractions. Polonnurawa has earned itself the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site for its archeological relics. Historically speaking, Polonnurawa is the second-most oldest city in Sri Lanka.

Po?onnaruwa (Sinhalese: ??????????, Po?onnaruwa or Pu?attipura, Tamil: ??????????, Pola??a?uvai or Pu?atti nakaram) is the main town of Polonnaruwa District in North Central Province, Sri Lanka. Kaduruwela area is the Polonnaruwa New Town and the other part of Polonnaruwa remains as the royal ancient city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa.
